A Cost-effective Shuffling Method against DDoS Attacks using Moving Target Defense
Moving Target Defense (MTD) has emerged as a newcomer into the asymmetric
field of attack and defense, and shuffling-based MTD has been regarded as one
of the most effective ways to mitigate DDoS attacks. However, previous work
does not acknowledge that frequent shuffles would significantly intensify the
overhead. MTD requires a quantitative measure to compare the cost and
effectiveness of available adaptations and explore the best trade-off between
them. In this paper, therefore, we propose a new cost-effective shuffling
method against DDoS attacks using MTD. By exploiting Multi-Objective Markov
Decision Processes to model the interaction between the attacker and the
defender, and designing a cost-effective shuffling algorithm, we study the best
trade-off between the effectiveness and cost of shuffling in a given shuffling
scenario. Finally, simulation and experimentation on an experimental software
defined network (SDN) indicate that our approach imposes an acceptable
shuffling overload and is effective in mitigating DDoS attacks
A Hybrid Wavelet-Based Method for the Peak Detection of Photoplethysmography Signals
The noninvasive peripheral oxygen saturation (SpO2) and the pulse rate can be extracted from photoplethysmography (PPG) signals. However, the accuracy of the extraction is directly affected by the quality of the signal obtained and the peak of the signal identified; therefore, a hybrid wavelet-based method is proposed in this study. Firstly, we suppressed the partial motion artifacts and corrected the baseline drift by using a wavelet method based on the principle of wavelet multiresolution. And then, we designed a quadratic spline wavelet modulus maximum algorithm to identify the PPG peaks automatically. To evaluate this hybrid method, a reflective pulse oximeter was used to acquire ten subjects’ PPG signals under sitting, raising hand, and gently walking postures, and the peak recognition results on the raw signal and on the corrected signal were compared, respectively. The results showed that the hybrid method not only corrected the morphologies of the signal well but also optimized the peaks identification quality, subsequently elevating the measurement accuracy of SpO2 and the pulse rate. As a result, our hybrid wavelet-based method profoundly optimized the evaluation of respiratory function and heart rate variability analysis
The Cooperation Establishment Mechanism of EPC Project Consortium in Context of China: Form the Perspective of Trust
The purpose of this paper is to explore the establishment mechanism of an EPC consortium from the perspective of trust. Questionnaire surveys were undertaken to collect data from the experienced project managers of a design company group and a construction contractor group. Structural equation modeling was used to test the hypotheses in this research. The results reveal that reputation and communication are important factors in the generation of trust (including calculative trust and relational trust) from the design company perspective. Meanwhile, reputation, reciprocity and communication are important factors for the generation of trust from the construction company perspective. Both calculative trust and relational trust are positive factors that affect the intent of both the design company and the construction contractor to cooperate. This research has innovatively added to and contributed to the existing knowledge of EPC consortium establishment mechanisms
Topic-based Social Influence Measurement for Social Networks
Social science studies have acknowledged that the social influence of individuals is not identical. Social networks structure and shared text can reveal immense information about users, their interests, and topic-based influence. Although some studies have considered measuring user influence, less has been on measuring and estimating topic-based user influence. In this paper, we propose an approach that incorporates network structure, user-generated content for topic-based influence measurement, and user’s interactions in the network. We perform experimental analysis on Twitter data and show that our proposed approach can effectively measure topic-based user influence
